Camera Body
The size and weight of the two cameras is an interesting issue. Presumably, the 1Ds Mark III is larger and heavier due to a larger battery and the built-in side grip and controls. However, if you start with a 5D Mark II and add the optional EG-E6 battery grip with two LP-E6 batteries, you’re now working with a camera that is essentially the same size, weight, and having the same effective battery life as the 1Ds Mark III. The 5D Mark II gives you the option to work with a smaller, lighter camera without a side grip, or run with the advantages of the grip and the additional battery capacity. You get the best of both.
