Test Results
We ran the cameras through our usual array of imaging tests in controlled studio conditions. Using Imatest, a software program for analyzing digital image quality, we quantified the results.

Looking at the assumption we started with - that the two cameras are working with the same sensor, and that the 5D Mark II has the advantage of a more recent Digic processor - the three areas of primary concern are sensor and processing questions: those of resolution, noise processing and color fidelity. Here’s where things get interesting. As we’ve discussed in the Pro Digital Imaging blog, sensor resolution, ISO, noise, and actual resolution all go hand in hand. We expect to see some relationship between the three concerns: resolution, noise and color fidelity.
