Conclusion
At this price point, it’s all about the value. Each digital camera costs about a hundred dollars, but which one will take better pictures and give you a better user experience?
The Olympus FE-25 has more resolution at 10.1 megapixels. But the Nikon Coolpix L19 doesn’t lag far behind with its 8 megapixels – that’s certainly plenty for most consumers – and tacks on a longer 3.6x optical zoom lens and a bigger 2.7-inch LCD screen. In terms of components and usability, the L19 takes the cake with its intuitive interface and bigger components. The Olympus had a few victories – a more flattering flash and better auto focus system – but the Nikon L19 stole the show.
The two digital cameras have similar selections of automated scene and movie modes. The Olympus FE-25, however, does not record audio in its movie mode. Try recording a piano recital with this digital camera and you’ll be upset when you don’t hear a sound. Without audio, you may as well just be taking still images.
In terms of image quality, the two cameras split the prizes. The Olympus FE-25 has better resolution and remained truer to color in perfect conditions. But the Nikon Coolpix L19 was faster, produced less noise and performed better in low light. Its colors were less accurate and they were over-saturated, but they still looked better to my eyes than the dull FE-25’s colors.
All things considered, the Nikon Coolpix L19 is the better purchase when compared to the Olympus FE-25.
