Movie Mode (Nikon wins) – The Nikon Coolpix L19 wins this category easily, but not because the video quality is excellent. It wins because the Olympus FE-25’s movie mode is so awful. The FE-25 can only record 10 seconds at a time and does so without recording a single sound. That’s right: there is no audio recording on the Olympus. These options are deal-breakers but there is more to whine about: a bright flashing light during those 10 seconds of recording, unreliable white balance (her skin is white, now yellow, now gray…), and a lack of sharpness. The Nikon Coolpix L19 has a much more tempered white balance system. It allows 2x digital zoom while recording videos, while the Olympus FE-25 gives you full access to the 3x optical zoom. At the telephoto edge of the range though, the image gets significantly darker because of the smaller aperture. Both digital cameras record standard 640 x 480-pixel video that is good enough for playback on a television. They can also record in 320 x 240 pixel quality. Both cameras can play back videos, but the Nikon is the only one that can play audio back too. All said, this was an easy victory for the Nikon Coolpix L19.
