H2H ROUND-13: Accessories

Every manufacturer has a host of silly accessories like bags and sleeves and cases, but here are the accessories that matter:

Both cameras are compatible with Olympus’ FL-36 and FL-50 flash units, although they would be abnormally bulky on the PEN since they’re about the same size as the camera itself. Seeing this, THE PEN is also compatible with an FL-14 flash unit that is much more compact and lightweight. The E-620 can also utilize its hot shoe with a ring flash set, hot shoe flash cable, flash stand and flash bracket, and PC sync adapter. Clearly, the E-620 has the advantage when it comes to flash accessories.

We discussed lenses earlier and we feel that the E-620 has the advantage in this category too. The E-620 is directly compatible with more lenses, whereas the E-P1 requires a $209 adapter to engage a Four Thirds lens on this Micro Four Thirds camera.

Both cameras are compatible with a remote cable release, but only the E-620 functions with a remote control. The E-620 DSLR is compatible with an underwater housing, although it is quite expensive at $1,499.

The Olympus E-P1 has an optical viewfinder, but it is only good with the 17mm pancake lens and costs $179 by itself, although some packages include it with the camera for an extra hundred dollars. Of course, if you go for the E-P2, the viewfinder is included (probably because we’re not the only ones who complained!).

The E-620 has plenty of viewfinder accessories, mostly various sizes of eyecups but also a vari-angle finder. Head-to-head, the Olympus E-620 has a major advantage when it comes to accessories.
