Pentax W90, X90 Revealed

Sony Drops Skinniest Waterproof Cam To Date

Sony announced a petite digital camera that can take a beating and still function. The Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is “the world’s thinnest and smallest certified waterproof,” according to the company’s press release, and is also shock, freeze, and dustproof. It will go on sale for $350 in April. Sony also announced a long-zoom compact, the H55, with its 10x lens and 14.1 megapixels for $250.

Olympus Tough Cameras Get Tougher

Olympus announced a new flagship to its Tough series of waterproof digital cameras. The Olympus Stylus Tough-8010 is waterproof down to 33 feet, shockproof from 6.6 feet, freezeproof to 14 degrees, and crushproof to 220 pounds. The company also announced the Tough-6020, which isn’t as tough as the flagship but can still endure a beating.

Waterproof Fujifilm XP10 Unveiled

Fujifilm redesigned its waterproof Z33WP and launched a whole new “Four-Proof” series starting with the FinePix XP10. The new camera has 12 megapixels in a compact body that is immune to four elements: water, shock, cold, and dust. It will go on sale later this month for $199.

Panasonic TS2 Goes Further Below Sea Level

The Panasonic Lumix TS2 takes the place of 2009’s rugged TS1 with more resolution and “enhanced toughness,” according to the company’s Jan. 26 press release. Last year’s camera could dip to 10 feet underwater, but the 14.1-megapixel TS2 can dive to 33 feet.

Olympus Unveils New Tough Camera

Olympus announced another waterproof digital camera to its “tough” lineup. The Olympus Stylus Tough-3000 is waterproof to 10 feet, shockproof from 5 feet, and freezeproof from 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 C). New features include HD video, art effects, and 1 GB of internal memory. The camera is set to go on sale next month for $229.

Shockproof Casio G1 Debuts

Casio expanded its portfolio of miniscule digital cameras with the announcement of the Casio Exilim EX-G1, the company’s first waterproof model. The 12.1-megapixel camera can survive a dip in the water to 10 feet and drops from 7 feet, according to the specs. The G1 will sell for $299 beginning next month.

Pentax added another waterproof camera to its collection with the announcement of the Optio WS80. The company also announced the slim P80 and the budget-friendly E80. Pentax Drops New Shockproof W80

Pentax made its most rugged camera even more so with the announcement of the Optio W80. The new camera adds a few more megapixels and can swim to deeper waters than its predecessor, the W60. The Pentax Optio W80 will begin selling in July for $299.
