Waterproof digital cameras are popping up from almost every manufacturer. On March 3, GE announced the G3WP, a 12.1-megapixel digital camera that can dip down to 10 feet underwater. The new model will sell for $199 this summer.
“We’re very excited about this camera, because it opens up a whole new range of activities our customers can capture and preserve,” said Tom Haga, CEO of General Imaging. “Whether you’re going swimming or taking a walk in the rain, the G3WP is the perfect camera.”
The G3WP carries with it another trendy feature: automatic scene detection. Add in a panoramic mode, a 2.7-inch LCD screen, 116MB of internal memory, and optical image stabilization on a 4x optical zoom lens, and you get a pretty decent feature set.
The GE G3WP is one of ten cameras announced by GE on March 3, 2009.
