Leaf introduced a new digital back today with the announcement of the Leaf Aptus-II 10R. The new back has a 56-megapixel image sensor with the same specs as the Aptus-II 10; the only difference between the two versions is that the newer model has an internal mechanism that rotates the sensor’s orientation so as to keep the camera’s position fixed.
The Leaf Aptus-II 10R’s rotating sensor allows photographers to save time and perhaps money as well, as the internal rotation prevents the sensor from being exposed to the elements, according to the company. This is important seeing as the Aptus-II 10R has a price tag of €24,995, or about $33,700 USD.
The 56-megapixel image sensor measures 56 x 36mm and can produce a 345MB, 16-bit TIFF image file. The new digital back can shoot one full-resolution frame per second, making it well-suited for architecture, landscape, portrait, and product advertising, according to Leaf Imaging.
“Leaf is delivering a top-of-the-line back with a 56MP sensor featuring an internal rotation solution that addresses issues familiar to medium and large-format photographers,” said Ziv Argov, director of marketing for Leaf Imaging, Ltd., in the March 31 press release. “For example, rotating the sensor internally eliminates the need for an adapter plate which increases the risk of misalignment, which today is more critical with higher sensor resolutions. This is the best possible solution for pros – offering them the freedom to focus on photographic creativity.”
The new digital back is directly compatible with Hasselblad V series cameras except for the 200 and 2000 versions. The Leaf Aptus-II 10R is also compatible with the following medium format cameras with an adapter: Mamiya RZ67, RZ67 Pro II, RZ Pro IId, RB67, Fuji GX680II, GX680III, and Bronica SQA/SQAi. Other cameras from Alpa, Arca-Swiss, Cambo, Horseman, Linhof, Sinar, Toyo, Rollei X-Act2 and others are compatible with a Leaf Graflok or other third-party adapter.
Like other Leaf Aptus-II products, the 10R digital back has a 3.5-inch touch screen display and comes with the most recently updated software package. It includes Leaf Capture v.11 and Capture One v.5.1 software.
