Pentax released its first firmware update for the entry-level K-x. The new firmware improves the accuracy of the battery indicator and allows users to customize the “cross processing” function.

The Pentax K-x has 12.4 megapixels and was announced in September and released in October. It comes with a 2.7-inch live view LCD and HD video capability, features that Pentax hopes will attract users to upgrade from their compact digital cameras to DSLRs. The Pentax K-x also comes in red, blue, black, and white bodies and retails for $649 including a kit lens.

The version 1.01 firmware, released Dec. 3, adds three presets to the “cross-processing” mode on the camera and allows users to assign it to Pentax’s trademark “Green” button. According to the company’s original press release, the cross processing mode “automatically and randomly adds some finishing color to mimic the film processing technique.”
