Sigma announced a new compact digital camera, the DP1s, that makes a few minor improvements over its half-sibling, the DP1. Both models have 14 megapixels on an APS-C size sensor and fixed 28mm f/4 lenses.

The new Sigma DP1s improves its ease of use by assigning the “quick set function” to the digital zoom buttons – something that can be done on the DP2 and SD14. Other improvements include the ability to shoot RAW and JPEG files simultaneously and to more accurately reproduce subtle tones in subjects that are backlit.

The Sigma DP1s follows the DP1, which first went on sale in spring 2008. The DP1 has plenty of manual and automated controls and even has a 3 fps burst mode. It is compatible with SD/SDHC media. The Sigma DP2 was announced in late 2008 and comes with the same 14-megapixel sensor, but has a different 41mm f/2.8 lens.

Pricing information is not yet available for the DP1s. The older DP1 originally retailed for about $800, although it sells for about $450 now. The fresher DP2 sells for about $650, so it is expected that the DP1s’s price hover in that range.
